DescriptionHandled coffee cup and small dish decorated en suite in gold and grisaille with a star and wavy dot border and a central tart-shaped medallion enclosing a reversable double portrait of a young woman and a bespectacled older woman.Label TextDouble portraits like the one that decorates this Chinese porcelain cup and small plate are also found on English ceramics and European snuff boxes of the same period. John Kay's 1789 etching entitled "Before marriage; After marriage" is one print that served as a design source for the pattern.
