DescriptionTeacup with warm-gray glaze over white body with overglaze enamel decoration en grisaille with gilt and select applications of iron oxide. The teacup and saucer with similar decorative elements, however arranged differently. Both with traditional, so-called symbols of "Amorous Trophies," including an altar with two vases, two birds perched on cupid's quiver, in a pastoral landscape. Cup with red sprig to inside bottom. With border composed of intertwined shells and arabesques. Gently flaring body from pronounced unglazed foot ring. Rather wide base.Label TextThis Chinese export porcelain saucer is decorated with ink color enamels in the Valentine pattern. The western symbolism includes two doves, cupid's quiver, and altar with eternal flame.
