Pressure-fit lid decorated with six panels of pierced diapering and a cast and peened pineapple finial.Label TextConsidered to me a more conservative than innovative silversmith, Burt left behind a considerable body of work, having produced a full range of holloware forms. One of the most prominent producers of such goods, many of the Boston area's elite were his clients at one time or another.Inscription(s)Underside of foot engraved "A • R," and scratched "3.. 2..16."Mark(s)Side of body struck with "B•BURT" (Kane mark C) in relief within a rectangle and what may be another mark struck below the rim.ProvenanceAcquired by trade from Jonathan Trace, July 26, 1978.Joseph Richardson, Sr. (1711-1784)
