DescriptionLow-fired furnished earthenware jar with slightly narrowed base and neck with defined shoulder, decorated with a polychrome checkerboard design. Signed on the base.Label TextToday Lucy Lewis is revered as one of the matriarchs of American Indian pottery, learning the Acoma Pueblo pottery traditions from her great-Aunt and others in her community. Her use of black geometric lines on a white slip was part of a revival of eleventh-century Mimbres-style pottery.
