DescriptionStraight-sided round bowl with two rows of indentations on sides and cylindrical foot ring, with crimped rim and handle missing. White tin glaze decorated predominantly in blue with a scene of a lady and a man: his cloak, hat, and shoes in manganese-black. Inscribed "IR 1672."Label TextIt would be tempting to suggest that this porringer is a royal commemorative for James II, but he was not on the throne in 1672. Presumably the I and R were someone's initials. Judging from the place where the handle originally was attached, it probably resembled the one on CWF accession 1959-51.
