DescriptionSaucer Tureen (2024-62,A&B): four lion mask paw feet support a squat oblong body composed of alternating four large and four smaller panels; the body rises to a short cordoned oval neck that supports a slightly domed lid of conforming paneled shape with a cut out to receive a ladle handle; the body is flanked on the short ends with molded bail handles with lion mask terminals; the handles, feet and rim gilt; the short sides of the body painted in pink purple, blue, yellow orange and green with flower clusters; the short sides painted with a single flower between each bail handle; the lid painted ensuite.
Stand (2024-62,C): of 8-lobed paneled navette shape painted ensuite with the sauce tureen. The base of the tureen and the stand marked in red-orange with a crowned “D” for the Derby Porcelain Manufactory and a pale purple “4” to match the stand with the tureen.Mark(s)The base of the tureen and the stand marked in red-orange with a crowned “D” for the Derby Porcelain Manufactory and a pale purple “4” to match the stand with the tureen.ProvenanceDescended in the Tucker families of New York and Bermuda. Passed down to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28, 1879-August 22, 1970] of Paget, Bermuda, who gifted the piece to her nephew, Edward Bolton (Teddy) Tucker, MBE [May 8, 1929-June 9, 2014]; it then descended to his daughter Wendy Susan Tucker who subsequently gifted it to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2024.
