DescriptionSauceboat: the body of single-lipped silver-shape with a lobed and barbed rim; supported on three large crisply molded lion mask and paw feet (one foot under the spout and two at the handle end) with the glaze wiped on the undersides of the feet; opposite the pouring lip is a single molded modified double c-scroll handle with a mask facing inward at the upper juncture. Painted in blue with chinoiserie style decoration; the exterior of either side of the body painted with peonies, fences, and bamboo below a foliated border at the shaped rim; the interior edge with a band of leaves and flowers and the well painted with a flower sprig; the handle decorated with stylized flowers; the underside bears a “G” in script, possibly the decorators mark.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)The underside bears a “G” in blue script, probably the decorators mark.ProvenanceFormerly in the respective collections of Raymond C. In 2026, Robert Hunter sold it to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA) where it remains to the present.
