DescriptionTankard: straight-sided mug with applied extruded ear-shaped handle opposite the black transfer printed decoration depicting a three-quarter length portrait of Marquis Cornwallis within a laurel branch oval reserve flanked by identified figures of Justice and Mercy, the former with cornucopia at her feet; above the portrait is an oval reserve containing, “MARQUIS / CORNWALLIS” and below within a conforming arc the phrase, “To whose Clemency & Bravery Ireland owes her Preservation”; trophies of war below that text.Inscription(s)Above the portrait of Cornwallis is an oval reserve containing, “MARQUIS / CORNWALLIS” and below within a conforming arc the phrase, “To whose Clemency & Bravery Ireland owes her Preservation”.
