DescriptionPunch bowl: deep circular bowl slightly constricted at top with molded rim and supported on scotia and cavetto molded circular foot. Engraved on side amid foliate scrolls is a coat-of-arms: argent, a castle proper, the chief azure with crescent between two mullets or.Label TextLarge bowls intended for punch are part of the proliferation of new forms in the late seventeenth century. The earliest surviving examples date from the 1680s. One of these is a magnificent silver-gilt example with cover, scrolled handles, and feet by Philip Rollos, which was presented to the borough of Stamford in 1685. It has a matching ladle with a tubular silver handle.

The Colonial Williamsburg collection includes a large group of early silversmiths' tools that descended in the succession of firms ultimately known as Garrard & Co.
