Base of block-Deal.Label TextMusic stands hold sheet music for the performer at about eye level when seated, making the music easier to read while playing. This stand is not adjustable for height and was probably intended only to be used while seated. This example of an eighteenth-century music stand features a birdcage, which is unique in this form of furniture. Typically found on round, tilt-top tea tables from this period, the birdcage mechanism allows the top of the table to fold down at a 90-degree angle, making it easier to store against a wall when not in use. A pair of candlestick supports slide out from under the base board to provide additional light for the musician during evening performances.Mark(s)None found
