DescriptionSlightly ovoid-shaped storage jar with lug handles affixed on either side of the vessel approximately one inch from the everted and rolled rim. The pot sits on a flat base and is covered in a rich brown wash and alkaline glaze. The piece is encircled with three rows of wavy lines; each "line" is comprised of four individual lines grouped together.Label TextThe movement of potters during the 19th century was not simply from north to south, but was also east to west as demonstrated by the Carpenter family, the makers of this storage jar. The Carpenter family moved from Lincoln County, North Carolina, and then north and east to Carroll County, Virginia.
