DescriptionSilver ladle with turned fruitwood handle in long conical socket. Circular silver bowl with applied molding around an everted lip and a triangular pouring spout at a right angle to the handle.Inscription(s)Engraved on underside of bowl in block letters "IM"Mark(s)Marked in relief inside bowl: 1) "EG" in block letters with a star below in relief within a lozenge (upper part obscure) for Elizabeth Goodwin (Grimwade1990 #590); 2) lion passant; 3) leopard's head crowned; 4) date letter "O" for 1729-30ProvenanceVendor: Thalhimer Brothers, Richmond, VAEx Coll: Henry P. Strause. Mr. Strause was a retired tobacconist from Richmond who was living in Washington at the time of his death on October 11, 1947. A number of items from his collection were loaned to the Virginia Museum in 1936.
