DescriptionGold mourning brooch with two neoclassic urns on a single plinth carved in bas relief on ivory. On back inscription "Mann Page. Anne Corbin Page". A willow painted on glass cover overhangs the urns from the right while a woman leans weeping on the plinth from the left. One lock of hair acts as hair for this figure while another lock of hair lies along bottom of the brooch. A signature "R.Web(?)" and the date "179(?)" is barely decipherable with maginfication at bottom of glass cover. Comes with original red leather case, glass and white satin lining.Inscription(s)"Mann Page" and "Ann Corbin Page" engraved on back; "R. Web(?)" and "179(?)" at bottom of glass coverProvenanceThe brooch descended in the Page family apparently until it was acquired by vendor; and memoralizes the deaths of Mann Page and Anne Corbin Page of Virginia.
