DescriptionShallow charger with everted rim and foot ring. Lead glaze on the back; white tin glaze on the front decorated in blue, yellow, orange, and manganese with a full-length portrait of Charles II in royal robes, crowned and holding an orb and scepter, standing in a vaulted hall between columns. Blue- dash rim with inner yellow band. Inscribed "C 2 R".Label TextThirteen dated chargers commemorating Charles II have been recorded, the four dated 1661 or 1662 being the most like this example. Ten of the chargers show Charles standing within columns, a design feature derived from those depicting his father, Charles I (see CWF accession 1968-104).

The London attribution for this charger is based on the subject and the early date.
