DescriptionSilver cream pot: Three double-scroll legs with stepped hoof feet and lobed upper junctures support a globular body with narrow circular neck above molded bands. Neck with shaped everted rim and broad curved and folded spout with applied tip on underside. Cast double-scroll handle with acanthus-leaf grip and scrolled tip affixed at rim and lower section of body.Label TextCream pots of this compressed baluster form with moldings at the juncture of the neck and body date mainly from the 1730s and early 1740s. They tend to be of heavier gauge and have more sculptural handles than cream pots of the standard pear-shaped form.Inscription(s)Engraved with initials "M H" on bottom of one foot and engraved with weight "4=15" on the bottom of another footMark(s)Struck in relief on underside of body with 1) a lion passant; 2) a leopard's head crowned; 3) date letter "b" for 1737-38; and an illegible sponsor's mark.
