DescriptionRaised circular squat baulster-shaped body with large v-shaped spout at right angle to turned wooden handle set in tapered tubular socket; circular stepped and domed lid with cast ball finial.Label TextThe first owner of this saucepan was most likely Arthur Peronneau Hayne (1788-1867) of Charleston. He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and a United States Senator from South Carolina. In 1851, he presented the saucepan to his infant great-nephew and godson, Edward Stiles Hayne (1850-1867).Inscription(s)Later engraving on body opposite handle within a wreath: "Presented to Edward Stiles Hayne by his Uncle & Godfather Col. A. P. Hayne 1851."Mark(s)Marked twice on base in relief "J.EWAN" in a serrated rectangle.
