Blade of the early reverse tapered type, narrowing from the tip towards the socket.Label TextThe hexagonal socket and the narrowing of the blade towards its base identify this chisel as one of the oldest in Colonial Williamsburg’s collection. A similar example was excavated at a 1650-1680 house site near Jamestown, Virginia.ProvenancePurchased for Colonial Williamsburg at Roberts auction, London, 3/26/85, by The Mechanick's Workbench.
