DescriptionStandard late 18th-early 19th-century T-bevel with unslotted iron/steel blade. One end of blade beveled, other slightly rounded. Handle (beam) consists of two pieces of mahogany with brass wear plates inlet into (and, in the case of the bottom plates, riveted) to outside surface of each end. The lower end of the beam is square, while the upper end is radiused (with brass plates conforming). A brass shim, secured by the rivets which hold the lower brass wear plates, acts as a spacer forming a slot in the beam. The blade is pivoted at the upper end of this slot upon a slotted screw. Tightening the screw locks the blade at any desired angle.Label TextIn addition to a blade that extends from both sides of the pivot point, this bevel also has a set screw. This securely locks the blade at the correct angle being copied, for accurate transfer to the work at hand.Mark(s)"KH G" is struck in the wood on one side of handle, and "GH.GIESEL" is struck into both.c.1776
