DescriptionPair of pockets; fronts are made of patchwork printed cottons and backs are made of brown linen. Pockets have bell shape. Pockets are connected by blue striped linen tape sewn at the top with lengths for tying. Vertical slit extending partway from the top of the pocket. Pockets are partially lined in blue check. One pocket has an additional blue check patch on the back. Back of one pocket has sewn tag at the top labeled with “pocket A”. Back of other pocket has sewn tag at the top labeled “pocket b”.Label TextThis pair of pockets has a patchwork design created by thirteen different patterned fabrics. The textiles contain both floral and geometric designs, popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The use of varied fabrics suggest that the pockets might have been made from leftover scraps from other garments.Inscription(s)Back of one pocket has sewn tag at the top labeled with “pocket A”.
