DescriptionPlate: circular plate with foot ring; the broad rim decorated with a bianco-sopra-bianco border of leafy flowers surrounded scrolls, the border evenly interrupted by three scallop and shell reserves: one reserved with a scene of ducks swimming, two startled by a dog hiding in marsh grass; the second with a valentine pattern of two doves, bow and arrows, and an urn; the third with two spotted dogs in the foreground with a garland-wrapped tree and hunting implements beside, a herd of animals in the background; the cavetto of the plate with a gilt scroll and leaf band, the well painted with a central asymmetrical scene of two birds perched on flowering branches, amidst rocks, a butterfly flying overhead, all painted in grisaille, pink, peach, blue, and green opaque enamels (famille rose decoration).ProvenanceDescended in the Tucker families of New York and Bermuda. Passed down to Catharine Fitch Tucker [February 28, 1879-August 22, 1970] of Paget, Bermuda, who gifted the pieces to her nephew, Edward Bolton (Teddy) Tucker, MBE [May 8, 1929-June 9, 2014]; it then descended to his daughter Wendy Susan Tucker who subsequently gifted it to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2024.
