DescriptionSilver dish cross based on a circular spirit lamp (cover missing) set with a swivel ring from which radiate four square arms capped by applied 6-pointed stars. Each arm has an openwork sliding socket topped by a shell-shaped dish rest and a petaled foot, each supported by a C-scroll.Inscription(s)Engraved with a later crest of arm embowed with a double-bladed pick and the Latin motto “VIX • EA • NOSTRA VOCO”.Mark(s)London sterling hallmarks for 1762-1763, plus the maker's mark of Samuel Herbert & Co. (Grimwade-2542).
