DescriptionSilver and tortoiseshell snuff or tobacco box: Oval silver box with hinged nine-knuckle lid. Silver lid is lined with tortoiseshell; straight silver sides; base of box a translucent oval of tortoiseshell inset in silver. Lid richly engraved with a basket of flowers surrounded by four concentric bands of foliage.Label TextExotic materials like tortoiseshell were sometimes incorporated into snuff or tocacco boxes.
