DescriptionOblong oval dish with gilt foliate and gilt and blue laurel wreath border between concentric gilt lines; an oval outlined in gilt at the center of the well. Painted on back in red with rubbed Derby mark of jeweled crown over crossed batons, six dots and script D; pattern number 43.Mark(s)Painted on back in red with rubbed Derby mark of jeweled crown over crossed batons, six dots and script D.ProvenanceAccording to family history, this dish belonged to Governor Littleton Waller Tazewell (1774-1860) who was married to Anne Stratton Nivison. The dish descended to their daughter Mary Tazewell who married Matthew Page Waller, then to their son Corbin Griffin Waller who married Fanny Marshall Byrd, then to their daughter Ann Byrd Waller who married Thomas Merrill Whittemore, and then to their son, Thomas Marshall Whittemore and his wife Jane Whittemore.
