Further dimensions: Width of hem, spread out: 45". Each two color stripe on sleeve measures 3/4 times 2=1 1/2 wide. Red velvet stripe down either side of front is one inch wide, stitched to 4-inch wide black velvet, for a total of 5 inches wide on either side of front opening.

DescriptionMan's academic robe with full skirts pleated from shoulders, full open sleeves from gauged tucks at upper arms, and front opening with hooks and eyes. Black and red velvet strips down front and three two-color velvet stripes on each sleeve. Black has yoke and gauged pleats falling into skirt; central cord and button. Label at center back reads: "INTERCOLLEGIATE B[?] Cotrell & Leonard, ALBANY, N.Y.U.S.A. MAKER OF THE CPAS, GOWNS, AND HOODS TO THE AMERICAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. W A R G [script]ProvenanceOwned and worn by Dr. William Archer Rutherford Goodwin and later given to Rev. Doctor Cotesworth Pinckney Lewis, rector of Bruton Parish Church. Dr.Goodwin wore the robe in his portrait painted around 1941 by Ivan G. Olinsky, G1984-61. The robe was sent to Colonial Williamsburg after Rev. Cotesworth Pinckney Lewis's death.
