DescriptionSilver-shaped soft-paste porcelain or bone china plate with gadroon-edged serpentine rim enclosing a narrow conforming gilt line. Center and edge of plate painted with scattered overglaze sprays of blue, pink, and gilt stylized flowers.Label TextThis plate was acquired at an auction sale of the effects of a house called Hickory Hill, built in 1827 near Ashland, Virginia, by William F. Wickham, son of John Wickham of Richmond. Because of the early date of this plate, it most likely was originally owned by John Wickham at his Richmond home which is now part of the Valentine History Center.Mark(s)Printed mark in overglaze red on the back of the plate. The text appears beneath a crown and reads: "ROYAL PORCELAIN WORKS/ FLIGHT, BARR & BARR/ WORCESTER/ &/ COVENTRY ST. LONDON."ProvenanceThis plate was acquired by the donor at an auction sale of the effects of a house called Hickory Hill, built in 1827 near Ashland, VA, by William F. Wickham, son of John Wickham of Richmond.
