Label TextThis small ingot, called a "biscuit," was intentionally broken or cut to the weight of about 16 Spanish reales, or about two dollars. Dating from the early 16th century, it contains silver and other metals; it was destined for Spain when the ship transporting it sank. Had the biscuit arrived, it would have been refined and made into coins.

Now largely illegible, this ingot bears partial Spanish tax stamps.
