DescriptionBaluster cann on molded foot, with everted lip and double-scroll handle.Label TextMugs of this form, known as a ‘baluster cann,” arrived on the London scene at the beginning of the 18th century, and were an instant hit. American silversmiths soon copied them, making variations well into the 19th century. This early version is the oldest piece of Philadelphia holloware in the collection.Mark(s)"IR" stamped in relief within an oval on either side of the handle near rim.
