DescriptionTwo-piece mallet with a chevron-shaped curly maple head of square section with chamfered corners. The tapered ash or hickory handle is wedged into the head's round eye.Label TextThe mallet is to tinwork what the hammer is to ironwork. Made from either wood or tightly coiled rawhide, the mallet was used to pound tin pieces against various forms in order to give them the desired shape.Inscription(s)Once face of head struck "J H KURTS" twice.
