DescriptionLarge bombe oval tureen with palm-leaf die-rolled border at lip; cast loop side handles; on four claw feet with acanthus leaf knees; chased oval foliate scroll cartouches; stepped dome lid with cast heart-shaped foliate handle.Label TextMade circa 1835 by the New York silversmith William Adams, this tureen embodies the classical style popular in early 19th-century America. The palm-leaf pattern of banding around the rim of the body reflects the newly fashionable Egyptian influence. It is the first American-made soup tureen added to the Colonial Williamsburg collection.
