DescriptionChild's two-piece dress of black and natural woven checks trimmed with black and faded purple plaid, and lined with white cotton. A. Bodice has collarless bound neckline, long sleeves curved over the elbows, and princess seaming. The jacket or bodice ends below the waist in a ruffled short skirt giving a peplum effect. Center-back buttoned opening. Machine constructed. B. Skirt has smooth gores at front and extra fullness at back. Double plaid ruffles in black and purple on natural at hem. Buttoned waistband.ProvenanceDress was given to donor around 1931-1932 by Gertrude Hewitt of Appomattox, originally from Ohio. Dress was probably made in the Columbus, Ohio, area.
