DescriptionSilver teapot on stepped circular foot; round bowl with applied oak branches and acorns at the belly above engraved initials "ECM" and "1832" on one side and "ECM" on the other; hinged, domed lid with molded leaves and berries and round finial of leaves and flowers on a pedestal; scroll handle with ivory spacers, acanthus leaves at terminal and mid-joint, and roses and acanthus leaves at top; curved spout with acorns, roses, flowers, and leaves at base and leaf at spout. Identical to teapot, 2009-162,1, but slightly largerInscription(s)Engraved in script "ECM/ 1832" on one side and "ECR" on the other.Mark(s)Marked in relief "J.CURRY" in serrated rectangle and "PHILA." in serrated rectangle, each stamped twice on the bottom of bowl.ProvenanceEach piece is engraved in script "ECM" for Elizabeth Clifford Morris (1813-1892) of Philadelphia, married Samuel Canby (1811-1875) of Wilmington, Delaware on June 25, 1832. The coffee pot is also engraved "1832" and, on the opposite side, "ECR" for Elizabeth Roberts Canby (Mrs. James Canby, 1781-1868).
