DescriptionOval gold brooch with scalloped edge and beve led glass cover over an opening which contain s human hair, encircled by small pearls and, in another oval, by faceted jet stones. Simp le stick clasp and catch on back.Mark(s)Engraved on back: "Wm F. Randolph/died 16.July 1859./Aged 63 years."ProvenanceDescended in the family of William Fitzhugh Randolph, 1796-1859, through his marriage to J ane Cary Harrison in 1818. William F. Randol ph was a son of William Randolph of "Chitower ," whose portrait by Matthew Pratt (as a chil d) is owned by Colonial Williamsburg (1953-88 7).
