Label TextAlthough one of the few medals worn by British soldiers on the eve of the American Revolution, little is known about the "Order of the 37." Composed of the commissioned gentlemen leading the 37th Regiment of foot, the society's activities were likely limited to the drinking of toasts and the promotion of fraternity within the unit's officer corps.

Shortly after this medal was struck, the 37th Regt. embarked for service in the rebellious American colonies, landing in the Carolinas in early 1776.
