Hussey was born in Robbins, North Carolina in 1955. From an early age he observed and learned potting techniques from the working potters near his home. He participated in every stage of vessel construction from digging the clay to loading the kilns. This eventually led to Hussey's development as a potter who uses indigenous technology and materials in his work. Billy Ray Hussey is particularly well known for his animal sculptures like this polka dotted alligator.Mark(s)Marked on the base with the incised initials "BH" and an encircled number 53 (this indicates the kiln firing that this piece came from).
