DescriptionAmerican halberd of early form, with a very wide leaf shaped double-edged blade and a strong median ridge running from the point through the socket. The crescent-shaped blade is asymmetrical, with the top point curving further outward, and a notched decoration to the back of both point. The rear beak is also tiny and somewhat awkward. Inside the socket are the forge-welded attachment ends of the reinforcing straps, now missing. Later piercings are present at the extreme base of the socket, likely done during its working life when it was re-hafted.Mark(s)Traces of what may be a maker's mark are on the beak, and resemble a crenellated quartered circle.
