Label TextThe largest silver coin struck by the British was the "crown," which was more or less on par with the one ounce silver coins issued by the other European powers. Due to the small amount of bullion available to the Tower Mint, relatively few crowns were struck when compared to the vast output of those mints operating under the Spanish.

By including roses & the Prince of Wales' plumes on the reverse of this coin, the mint is denoting that the silver for this coin was supplied by the "Company for Smelting Pit Coale and Sea Coale."
