DescriptionPortrait of Charles I sitting at three-quarter profile to his proper right. He looks to the viewer over his left shoulder and wears a white collar, the Ribbon, and the Order of the Garter. The portrait's frame is gilt and made from wood and composition.
ProvenanceCa. 1680, Sir Thomas Whitcombe (Bridgenorth, England); by direct family descent to Lady Whitmore; 1982, sold to John P. Howell; by descent? to his son, John T. Howell [1941-2021], and Gretchen Howell (Hiawassee, GA); 1998-present, given to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
