DescriptionBrass balance with folded over & pierced end, engraved with numerals & gradations on both sides. Slide mounted with cast medalet with maker's names & patent information, two sets of steel points project below to act as balance points.

Painted & partially marbled paper-mache two part case embellished with tooled geometric and floral decoration.
Inscription(s)Medallet on slide reads "BY THE KINGS PATENT" at center and "BRADFORD.DARBY. &.HULLS." Case impressed with "RD" for Richard Darby.ProvenancePurchased at David Stanley Auction #40, 28 September 2002, Lot 796.
