Yet the monarch's portrait also appeared on everyday objects such as coins, mugs, dishes, and spoons. Fragments from a range of vessels bearing Mary's likeness or initals have been found archaeologically at sites in Maryland, Massachusetts, and at nearby Jamestown. Reuniting Britain after a tumultuous period, Queen Mary II and her husband, King William III, jointly ruled Britain upon taking the throne in 1688, a moment known as the Glorious Revolution.
