DescriptionWoman's shoe constructed of green silk damask in a floral pattern and trimmed with 2 3/8-inch wide woven gilt metallic tape applied along the vamp and down the center back to the bottom of the heel. Edges are bound with green ribbed silk ribbon. Shoe is made with pointed, upturned toe and two latchets for buckling over instep with removable buckle. High tongue shaped in double cyma-curve. Relatively thick shaped heel, 2 3/8" high, sometimes known as a "Louis" heel. White rand. White leather lining along quarters and insole of shoe and linen linings on vamp and tongue. Shoe is made as a "straight," with no intended differentiation between right and left.Construction History:
1. Initially Constructed ca. 1730
2. Mid-1950s: Sent to Ernest LaNano for restoration and repair. Likely base of latchets stitched down, areas of wear stitched for support.
