DescriptionCoffee, japanned pot; tall, pearform coffeepot on stepped and molded base; stepped, domed lid with pineapple finial hinged at back; tapering scrolled handle with shaped terminals; shaped and tapering spout; entire pot lacquered red with a gilt chinoiserie scene at center of either side; bands of foliate gilt scrolls around lid, top, base, bottom of spout and at handle ends. Body, foot, spout and lid all made from sheet copper; body and lid tinned on the inside; foot japanned red on underside.Label TextBrightly painted or japanned accessories became increasingly more plentiful from the mid-eighteenth century onward.
