DescriptionFragment of pieced quilt top, alternating a strip of brown-ground block-printed floral cotton and a strip of madder red chinoiserie copperplate print. The brown strip, composed of five stitched-together pieces, features individual bouquets joined by coiling tassled cords in a design repeat of 24 inches. The red strip, composed of twelve pieces, has a design featuring human figures, pagoda, and animals, with no full repeat.ProvenanceBy family tradition, this was pieced by Mary Freytag (1783-1865). A handwritten note accompanying the textile reads "A piece of goods belonging to my Great Grandmother Mary Freytag who died when I was 13 years old she being 82 years old[.] Florence A. Raynor. Another note reads, "Grandma Freitag - Born 1783/ My grandmother Born 1852."ca. 1775, textile; quilted later
