DescriptionFrame consists of four Marlborough legs (1 7/8" square with chamfer on inside corner), two of which swing on wooden knuckle joints to provide leaf support. Horizontal astragal moldings are dadoed into the legs where they meet the lower edge of the skirt. Frame is of double-rail construction ; inner rails appear to be white pine, outer rails black walnut; rails are separated by 3/8" thick spacers; tulip poplar on one side and yellow pine on the other; inner rails were originally fastened to outer ones with hide glue and forged nails. Top originally of two board construction, one wide board (approx. 14") with a narrower one splined to it. A convex rule molding was cut on each side, and three pieces were mortised into each side to accept leaves. Leaves consist of one wide board (15") splined to a narrower board in same manner as the top - overall width 22"; original concave rule molding remains.
