DescriptionAppearance: Armchair in the Philadelphia rococo style; curvilinear crest rail with foliate carving at center, rounded ends, and rounded carved ears over a pierced splat; stiles carved in geometric lozenge and diamond pattern; shaped arms with knuckled arm terminals over S shaped arm supports; trapezoidal slip seat; seat rails shaped on underside with flattened arch on sides and double arch with carved central foliate motif on front; front cabriole legs with foliate and bellflower carving and ball and claw feet; rear rounded "stump" legs.

Woods: mahogany with machine shaped mahogany glue blocks, oak slipseat.
ProvenanceThe donor believed this chair to have a history in the Franklin family through his wife's family.
