DescriptionSideboard table, flat, rectangular marble top set into open frame with rabbeted inside edge to receive marble; top surrounded by heavy, multi-molded cornice; and end skirts cut out with single, deep arch; side skirts cut out with three, deep arched, the center one in a double semi-circular motif; base of drops between side arches are capped by thin, square piece of wood with molded edge; table supported on four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet.Mark(s)None found.ProvenanceEx. Helen Temple Cooke (1865-1955); born Rutland, Vermont, daughter of Edmund and Mary Anne (Bardwell) Foster. Principal Dana Hall School and Tenacre School in Wellesly, founded Pine Manor Jr. College. Had an extensive collection of American Furniture, many pieces of which are illustrated in: Wallace Nutting, FURNITURE TREASURY (Framingham, 1928). Apparently sold at least a part of her collection in 1928 to Israel Sack, as he auctioned off many pieces from her estate in 1928-30. She died in 1955, buried in Walpole, New Hampshire.

Early Purchase records have the name "Governor Saltonstall" associated with this piece; perhaps the name of an early owner. A Gurdon Saltonstall (1666-1724) was Governor of Connecticut from 1707-1724.
