DescriptionGreen silk velvet pile on yellow twill-woven silk ground, in overall repeating small pattern of lily forms enclosed in small ogivals by leafy foliage. Selvages: 3/8" brown/green tabby.Label TextDuring Colonial Williamsburg's Restoration period, they worked with a variety of scholars, artisans, and companies to furnish historic and reconstructed buildings onsite. One of these companies was Lenygon & Morant, founded in 1915 when cabinetmaker Frances Henry Lenygon purchased Morant & Co., a London-based upholstery and interior decorating business. The company produced furniture, panelling, plasterwork, and textiles based on historic models; this swatch was likely obtained by the company as a period example for study and reproduction.Mark(s)4107Provenance1851-1915, Morant & Co.
