DescriptionThe lower margin reads: "H. Somerset/ 1763"Label TextThe Duchess of Beaufort is credited with hiring German-born Georg Dionysius Ehret, the most highly-regarded botanical illustrator in England at the time, to teach her daughter, Lady Henrietta Somerset. Ehret instructed Lady Henrietta in watercolor painting at her home, Badminton, the family seat of the Duke of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, England. The botanical specimens grown in the gardens at Badminton surely would have provided the source for her work.
