DescriptionWine glass: Small cup-shaped bowl cut with small semicircles of horizontal orientation (alternating upward and downward curves). Center band of bowl cut with concentric diamonds with quatrefoil centers. Straight stem cut with hexagonal facets. Plain conical foot.Label TextBritish stemware evolved dramatically during the eighteenth century. Early glasses featured bold knops. Gradually, emphasis shifted from the shape of the stem to the decorative possibilities offered by the inclusion of interlaced strands of trapped air or colored glass. In time, exterior surfaces were ornamented with facets cuts like those seen on this example.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)NoneProvenanceSource: James Robinson, Inc., 15 East 57th Street, New York City, New York 10022
