DescriptionGlobular body with everted rim, small foot ring, and strap-loop handle with lower terminal projection. Undecorated whitish tin glaze.Label TextAlthough made in great quantities, few of these purely utilitarian wares have survived, and they are difficult to date. Most that have survived were found in archaeological excavations, as this one may have been. One surviving example is decorated in blue with an oriental design. Chamber pots of different sizes and shapes have been excavated in London, and a large number of undecorated examples have been excavated in Williamsburg at numerous locations. Fragments of much rarer examples decorated in blue and white have been found on several sites including the Timberlake and Dana site (2JA.0221. 2JA.0222); the Tayloe House, Anthony Hay House, and Hay's Cabinetmaking Shop site (28DB.1402); and the rear of the Roscow Cole House (19AA.OO90).Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)NoneProvenanceJellinek & Sampson Antiques, Londonca. 1770
