DescriptionSaber scabbard of dark, tooled leather with three gilt-brass mounts, including a rounded bottom chape, a middle band mounted with a bolster and suspension ring and a locket mounted with a stud and at one time a suspension ring (now missing).Label TextThis particular sword hilt, with a lion’s head pommel, slotted “D” guard and a copper wire and crimped tape-bound grip, was amongst the most popular carried during the Revolutionary War by British officers. It’s scabbard fittings are also of gilt brass, and the top mount is marked CULLUM, CHARRING CROSS, the name and address of the London cutler who retailed the set.Inscription(s)Back of locket dot-punched "CULLUM CHARRING CROSS" in two lines.
